Investment Program
The mango industry investment program is a principal focus for AMIA. In partnership, AMIA and Horticulture Australia (HAL) manage the investment of grower levies in research and development programs and also marketing and promotions programs.
AMIA also sources funding from other areas to fund key industry activities. HAL also manages a range of projects funded through voluntary contributions from commercial entities, with matching funds from the Australian Government.
A significant investment of funds in the mango industry comes from other sources, such as State and Territory Departments of Primary Industries and Australian Government agencies such as the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).
Following are the types of funding available through HAL
Levy funding
(For those industries with statutory levies under the Primary Industries Levies and Charges Collection Act 1991 & Primary Industries Levies and Charges Collection Amendment Regulations 2003.)
Research & Development levies and Marketing & Promotion levies are collected from the grower by the Australian Government’s Levy Revenue Service. These funds are invested in projects that align with the mango industry strategic plan and industry priorities.
Voluntary Contributions
Voluntary Contributions (VCs) are a mechanism by which HAL can support R&D and marketing activities funded by money other than statutory levies.
Matched Australian Government Funds for R&D
HAL has the ability to provide funding (dollar-for-dollar through matched Australian Government funds) of up to a 0.5 per cent of the total value of production for the horticulture industry annually.
All R&D projects whether levy or VC funded are eligible for matched Australian Government funding. HAL has a responsibility to the Australian Government to ensure Australians benefit from R&D outcomes and they meet Commonwealth strategic weightings for research.
Funds sourced directly from Commonwealth, state or local government cannot be matched except where the sourced funds can be clearly identified as non-government (eg, environmental levy to research composting for waste disposal collected by local government from rate payers) and the results deliver benefit to horticulture.
Marketing projects are not eligible for matched Australian Government funding.
